What are face serums?
We’ve all seen our favourite beauty vloggers using serums as part of their skincare routine, but what are they actually used for? Let’s break it down.
A serum is a highly concentrated version of an active ingredient (such as Vitamin C) which should be used after cleansing, followed by a moisturiser.
We know what you are thinking, what’s the point if I already have these ingredients in my face creams? Face washes and moisturisers which include helpful ingredients for our skin (such as collagen or niacinamide) only have a small amount of this ingredient present in their products. Whereas, the face serum has a very high percentage of these important ingredients.
What does serum do?
There are many different types of serums on the market that it can be overwhelming! Don’t worry we will make it easy for you by describing their benefits.
HyaluronicAcid:
Helps skin to be healthy and radiant
Can aid the process of wound healing
Hydrates & moisturises your skin
Helps smooth out wrinkles & fine lines
Vitamin C:
Brightens skin
Evens skin tone
Makes your skin smooth
Reduces redness & appearance of undereye circles
Hydrates the skin
Promotes collagen production
Collagen:
Deeply nourishes the skin
Reduces the appearance of wrinkles & fine lines
Provides you with smooth skin
Firms the skin
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3):
Reduces the appearance of blemishes
Improves skin texture
Soothes irritated skin
Reduces redness
What serum should I use?
First things first, you need to know which skin type you are. If you don’t know, we have our easy guide on how to determine your skin type HERE
Sensitive or Acne Prone Skin
For acne prone skin we recommend using niacinamide as it helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes and can improve your skins texture. This serum can also sooth irritated skin which is perfect to use when you have a bad break out. Prevent congestion in your pores by using niacinamide to prevent future breakouts.
