Cleaning the bathroom may be one of the household chores people like to put off, but there’s no denying that when it is complete, you get a real feeling of satisfaction! Keep it looking spick and span by following our step-by-step guide on how to clean a bathroom.
Step 1: Clear the clutter
When cleaning your bathroom, you should always start by removing anything that isn’t attached. Move everything from the sink, on the surfaces, around the bath and on the floor, such as bottles, hair accessories, towels, and mats. This will ensure you give the room a thorough clean and avoid the temptation of cleaning around things! (We’ve all been there).
Step 2: Soak and scrub the bathtub, shower, and sink
First, spray limescale remover on the taps and showerhead. While that is getting to work, use an anti-bacterial cleaning spray all over the bathtub, sink and shower. If you have limited cleaning cupboard space, then opt for a multi-cleaning product that you can use on every surface – this will make cleaning the bathroom feel like a breeze!
Be generous with the spray and use a microfibre cleaning pad to scrub away any dirt and grime. Rinse away the limescale remover from the taps and showerhead to reveal a sparkling clean finish, and if you have a shower screen, use a shower squeegee to remove streaks and watermarks.
Step 3: Tackle the toilet
Time to tackle the toilet! Lift the lid and squeeze anti-bacterial bathroom cleaner around the bowl and leave it to work its magic. For a quick and effective clean, whip out your anti-bacterial wipes and give the lid, toilet seat and rim a thorough once over.
Now, let’s talk about toilet brushes. If you have one, you can keep it fresher for longer by adding a cap full of concentrated disinfectant into its holder, but we do recommend you change them quite regularly – for obvious reasons! (For more top tips on using concentrated disinfectant, check out our dedicated blog article).
Use your brush to give the bowl a good ol’ scrub and replace the rim block if it needs it. Rim blocks can be a breeding ground for germs, so it’s really important to replace them when they’re empty.
Step 4: Shelves, surfaces, mirror and more
Now you have tackled the larger parts of your bathroom it’s time to turn your attention to the smaller jobs. Using your anti-bacterial wipes, clean away any dirt and dust on your sides and shelves. Remove makeup mishaps and toothpaste splashes from your mirror with glass wipes or cleaner and if you have one, give your towel radiator a dusting too.
Then, using floor wipes or a mop and bucket, sweep up any dirt and debris from the floor.
Step 5: The finishing touches
Ta-da, your bathroom is now satisfyingly clean! But there are a few more things to do before you can pop the kettle on. Remember to put everything back in its place, store away anything you don’t use regularly, and put out some freshly laundered bathmats and towels.
That’s it, you’re all done! Step back, marvel at your hard work, and keep your fingers crossed it stays like that for at least 30 minutes in your home!
