Whether you love it or hate it, cleaning your home is a part of everyday life. So, to help you spruce up your interiors and to make daily cleaning chores that little bit easier, here at Savers, we are sharing our five favourite cleaning hacks you’ll wish you knew sooner!
1. Remove soap scum with toothpaste
If you have soap and water in your bathroom, you will get soap scum build-up. It’s a fact! You’ll notice it on glass shower doors, on your surfaces, and even on your fixtures. To get rid of the build-up, squeeze a small amount of white toothpaste (avoid the coloured gels as they can stain your surfaces) onto a damp cloth and buff into affected areas before rinsing away with cold water. No more scrubbing or scouring for you!
2. Clean & scent your home with tumble dryer sheets
Do you have a pack of tumble dryer sheets gathering dust in your cupboard? Perhaps you prefer to hang your washing out, or you forget to use them? If so, they have lots of other handy uses. Thanks to their long-lasting scent, they’re ideal to use as fragrant liners in your chest of drawers and wardrobe, or even to avoid mothball smells in storage boxes in the loft. Aside from their fresh aroma, they also make great dusters for electrical items, like your TV. Electronics attract dust like nothing else but wiping over them with a tumble dryer sheet will help counteract the static, leaving it free from dust for longer! Genius!
3. Use a sponge to clean your blinds
Blinds look beautiful in any home, but we’re probably all in agreement that they’re a pain to clean! Cut down on the time it takes by fashioning your own blind cleaner using a couple of sponges and a pair of tongs. Simply cut a hole in the short side of your sponges, slide them onto the tongs, and there you have your very own DIY blind cleaner!
4. Refresh and reuse your sponges
No at-home cleaning kit would be without a selection of sponges, but they can get grubby and full of bacteria quite quickly! Instead of replacing them repeatedly, give your sponges a new lease of life by popping them in the microwave for 30 seconds to kill off any germs. Once cooled down, they’ll be good to use again.
5. Clean your makeup brushes with baby shampoo
When was the last time you washed your makeup brushes? More than a week ago? It’s okay. You’re not going to be the only one! It’s a beauty job that often gets pushed down the priority list because, let’s face it, it’s boring. However, it doesn’t have to be a tricky or time-consuming job! Make it a breeze (and reduce the risk of transferring bacteria from your brushes to your face) by giving them a weekly rinse with baby shampoo. The gentle formula will be kind to the bristles and leave them silky soft for their next use.
