Since we begged our parents as teenagers to buy us our first pair of hair straighteners, we’ve lived for the beautiful styles created by those simple heated flat irons! However, it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of using it just to create straight poker tresses – they have so much more to give! So, if you’re ready to unleash the true potential of your fave heated styling accessory, check out these three additional ways to use your hair straighteners.
But First, Hair Prep
Using heat on your hair can cause havoc on your tresses! But a simple way to protect your locks is heat protection spray! Heat protection sprays are often packed with hair-loving ingredients and nourishing oils to protect your hair from heat damage and leave it feeling glossy and well-loved once your stylish session is over.
Simple spray evenly into wet hair, comb through for an even distribution, and you’re all set to dry and style!
So, which style will you be trialling first with your hair straighteners?

1. Classic Beach Waves
Curling your hair with hair straighteners is a love or hate job! If you haven’t quite got the knack of it yet, follow these super-simple steps to create gorgeous classic beach waves:
Step 1: Starting with the hair around your face, take a medium section of hair and clamp the heated hair straighter onto your hair, close to the root, making sure you direct the hair away from your face.
Step 2: Tilt your hair straightener to a 180-degree angle and pull the straightener downwards in a smooth, gentle motion until you reach the end.
Step 3: Repeat the clamping and pull technique across the same size sections around your head until you are left with bouncy ringlets.
Step 4: The curls may be a bit too glam for the classic beach wave look you are trying to achieve. To loosen them up, wait for the curls to cool down, run your fingers through them, or use a wide tooth comb to create chic, tousled ‘do!
Step 5: To finish the look, set it with hairspray.
Top tip: To create extra volume, as you move towards the back of your head, alternate the direction of the curl by tiling the straightener 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

2. Nostalgic Crimped ‘Do
The 90s called, and they’re over the moon the crimped hairstyle has made a comeback! So if you want to channel your inner popstar and give your hair a crimped makeover, check out our step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Working from the front to back of your head, section off areas of your hair and create thin plaits all over.
Step 2: Once you are happy with the number of plaits in your hair, spray them with hairspray and leave to dry.
Step 3: Clamp each plait with your hot hair straightener and apply pressure from root to tip 2-3 times before leaving the plaits to cool down.
Step 4: Once cool, unravel each plait and use your fingers to loosen your hair, revealing nostalgic crimped hair!
(Adding butterfly clips or glitter hair spray is optional but encouraged!)
3. A Ponytail, But Make it Better
Take your trusty ponytail, but make it GLAM in just a few easy steps.
Step 1: Before brushing your hair back into a secure ponytail, straighten your hair section by section to create a smooth, sleek look.
Step 2: Then, brush your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with a hair band.
Step 3: Take small sections of hair towards the end of your ponytail and flick them up 180 degrees using your hair straighteners.
Step 4: Add a spritz of sea salt or hair spray for added shine and texture.
