So, you finally bought an air fryer. Or maybe you’ve had one for a while and you can no longer ignore the layer of grease and burning food smell every time you use it! Either way, your air fryer needs a good clean. And if you’re here you’ve probably got no idea where to start.
Let’s delve into these instructions and help you clean your air fryer.
If it’s been recently used, unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool down completely. (About 30 minutes)
Remove all parts and components from the air fryer.
Place each basket/tray/pan in warm soapy water. Use a non-abrasive sponge to work into the gaps to remove all debris. Rinse with clean, warm water.
If any parts have baked-on grease or food, soak in warm soapy water for 10 minutes before scrubbing with the sponge.
For stubborn, burnt-on residue that won’t budge with soapy water and a sponge, make a paste using baking soda and water. Gently scrub the paste into the residue.
Turn the air fryer upside down and gently scrub the inside heating elements with a soapy sponge. Use a scrubbing brush if necessary.
Now clean the exterior with a soapy sponge and wipe down with a damp cloth.
Allow all removable parts and components to dry, or hand dry before reassembling.

How often should you clean an air fryer?
After every use
It’s not necessary to follow these steps after every use. However, after each use we recommend washing the basket, tray, or pan to avoid a build-up of baked on food crumbs and grime. Keep your eye on the inside of your oven. Clean any oil and food splashes off the heating element before they have a chance to get baked on! To keep your air fryer looking shiny and new, wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth frequently.
Every couple of uses
Give your air fryer a deep clean (follow our easy cleaning guide above!) every few uses.
Can you put air fryer parts in the dishwasher?
Put your air fryer components in the dishwasher at your own peril!
Here’s why. Dishwashers clean at super high temperatures and dishwasher tablets contain powerful, stain-removing chemicals. This combination can strip the non-stick coating right off your air fryer basket. We’re not saying you can’t ever put your air fryer in the dishwasher, just avoid doing it on a regular basis.
Dishwasher tips
If you do decide to use the dishwasher, we advise putting the parts on the top rack. The temperature is not always as hot, plus the waterpower can be gentler at the top. But do check the user’s manual to be sure which parts of your air fryer are dishwasher safe.
