Being house-proud is nothing to be ashamed of, is it a bit materialistic? Who cares! Here at Savers, we are all for it! Your house may look the part, but does it smell as good as it looks? Whether you have gone nose blind to your fury friend’s stench or are just a little bit too comfortable with the smell of cheesy feet, we have THE guide to help you out of that stinky slump!
Step 1: Get rid of bad smells
Pretty obvious right? But sometimes it can be so tricky finding where that funky smell is coming from. Use our checklist below to avoid bad smells before they even happen! Click through to find the sweet-smelling solution to your stinky problem:
Essential oils are such a handy and versatile product to have around your house. They can freshen the air while also bringing calming qualities to the atmosphere. So, you can relax knowing that you have a gorgeously scented home. Here at Savers, we have a variety of scents. From Lavender to help you sleep to peppermint and lime to get you energised in the morning. Essential oils can be personalised to fit your lifestyle and daily routines. Here are just a few ways you can make the most of your essential oils around the house.
Add to baking powder: This can be sprinkled on carpets and hoovered up to leave your vacuum cleaner and carpets smelling fresh. You can also keep it in a pretty jar and place it in your living room to reduce humidity and give off a fab scent.
Add to cotton balls: Similarly, to baking powder this can be displayed in a nice jar in the bathroom to ward off bad smells. Cotton balls are super absorbent so a little will go a long way!
Use an Oil Burner: This is the most traditional way of using essentials oils. Not only will you get some warming light from a little tea candle, but you will also get the fresh smell of your favourite oil.
Add to pillowcases and drawers: Add a few drops of your essential oil (we would suggest lavender) to the inside of your pillowcase to help you get to sleep or add to a clothand pop inside your drawers to keep your clothes smelling really fresh.
Add to dried pinecones or conkers: For a more outdoorsy look, you can go scavenging with the kids for some pinecones and conkers to add to a jar. Add a few drops of essential oil onto your crafty creation and you have yourself a DIY potpourri. This is a Savers household favourite around autumn time. So Cosy!
Bake or Brew something yummy
Baking bread is a sure-fire way to get your home smelling like a French bakery on a summer’s day. If you are not a baker, however, you can always buy a baguette and chuck it in the oven to pretend (we won’t tell).
TOP TIP: Avoid Garlic bread! Although it tastes yummy, it does not smell the yummiest!
Boil your favourite sweet-smelling fruits, we recommend berries to fill your house with a summery vibe or citrus and cinnamon for a cosier, wintery ambiance. Keep the door of the kitchen open to let the smells travel through your home.
Although Veg is good for our bodies, it’s not so good for providing beautiful scents. We suggest keeping the doors closed while boiling or roasting veg to avoid the whiffy smell going through your home.
TOP TIP: Make sure to give your pots and pans a shine before you boil so you are not leaving anything on the bottom to burn. Also, clean the oven frequently to ensure an uninterrupted sensational experience. You don’t want last week’s shepherds pie getting in the way of the smell of your fresh baking.
Use Air fresheners around the home
Pop a reed diffuser in a few rooms around the house and effortlessly enjoy a gorgeous scent for weeks on end. If you like something a bit more romantic and cosier, use scented candles to create a relaxed vibe. Remember to blow them out if you leave the house or go to bed! You do not want to wake up to burning curtains!
Make sure you use complimentary scents if you don’t want the same fragrance in each room. If you don’t like the thought of sniffing through the wide range of products that we have in store to determine what smells go together, we have you covered. Our range of plug ins swap between two scents allowing you to enjoy an ever-changing scent so you are conscious of the freshness every time you walk in the room.
