Want to avoid getting razor burn, skin irritation and ingrown hairs when shaving pubic hair alongside the bikini line? Learn how to shave your bikini line the right way with our essential tips.
If you’ve ever shaved your pubic hair, you may be familiar with some of the common after effects: razor bumps and rashes, inflamed skin, ingrown hairs and skin irritation. Here are our essential tips for shaving pubic hair:
What is your bikini line?
For anyone learning about hair removal for the first time and wondering what the bikini line is, this area covers any hair that you may notice on the skin around the bottom half of your bikini.
How to shave your bikini line?
There are a whole host of methods out there for bikini line hair removal, so to find the right one for you we’ve put together a guide to using Venus’s dedicated products for smooth shaving.
Before you start bikini line shaving we recommend using some essentials from Venus including a sharp razor and moisturizing shaving gel.
It’s worth knowing that bikini line hair can be particularly sensitive to irritation, so be sure to follow our tips!
Step 1 – Choose the right shaving tools
Venus Razor For Pubic Hair Skin
£5.49
If your bikini line hair is a little on the long side, you will need to trim it first before you using a razor. You can invest in a bikini line trimmer, electric shaver or use a pair of scissors to trim this area. Then select a razor for bikini line shaving such as Venus Pubic Hair & Skin Razor to finish the job.
Step 2 – Hydrate your skin
Soak your bikini line in warm water by taking a bath or shower for at least five minutes. This helps to hydrate both your skin and your hairs, making them easier to cut.
Step 3 – Try exfoliating
You may also consider exfoliating the skin around your bikini line area. Use a loofa or gentle scrub and lightly rub along your bikini line to remove any loose dead skin and hairs. Exfoliation helps to reduce skin irritation from shaving.
Step 4 – Lather on shaving gel
Using shaving gel is important, especially on more sensitive skin like your bikini line area. Venus Pubic Hair & Skin shaving gel helps the blade glide easily across the skin, minimising chances of razor burn and irritation. Reapply if it washes away during shaving.
Step 5 – Use a sharp razor blade
You don’t want to use a dull razor blade when shaving any area of your body, particularly your bikini line. Replace your razor blade regularly — especially if it starts to pull at your hair, feels rough on your skin or if you notice you’re itching after shaving more than normal.
These are all signs that its time to replace your razor blade. Using dull blades can increase your chances of skin irritation. Depending on how frequently you shave, a razor blade can last 5 to 10 shaves before you need a new one.
Step 6 – Shave lightly with steady strokes
Using steady strokes, shave your pubic hair around your bikini line in the direction of the hair growth. You don’t have to apply much pressure on your razor. In fact, if you have a sharp blade, it should do most of the work for you.
Step 7 – Be careful if shaving against the grain
If gently shaving in the direction of your hair growth doesn’t give you a close enough shave, apply more shaving gel and carefully shave against the direction of the hair growth. Be mindful of the sensitive skin around your bikini line , so the fewer razor strokes, the better.
Step 8 – Rinse off your bikini line and razor
Once you’re finished shaving, rinse off your bikini line, ideally with cool water — or you can use a cold wash cloth and press it to your skin for a minute or two — then pat your skin dry. Make sure to also clean off your razor and set it aside to dry.
Step 9 – Apply moisturiser
After you dry off, apply moisturiser or oil, preferably alcohol-free, to both sides of your bikini line . Since soap can dry out your skin, using a lotion or moisturising oil after you shave helps prevent itchy irritation and maintains the moisture your skin needs.
