Note: If your child catches chickenpox, seek professional advice from their GP and follow the NHS guidelines.
What is chickenpox?
Chickenpox is a contagious infection that’s most common among children but can affect adults, too. Physical symptoms include itchy red spots, which turn into blisters and scabs that eventually fall off. These are often accompanied with mild flu-like symptoms, e.g. fever, tiredness and loss of appetite.
Because of its contagious nature, those with chickenpox will need to stay away from school or nursery until the spots have started to form scabs. According to the NHS, this is usually around five days after the spots start to appear.
What is PoxClin Cool Mousse?
PoxClin Cool Mousse is a chickenpox treatment that’s applied directly to the skin to reduce symptoms such as redness, itchiness and irritation. Thanks to its lightweight mousse texture, it provides an instant cooling effect that soothes the skin and promotes faster healing.

How to use PoxClin Cool Mousse
Shake the can and squeeze the mousse into your hand
Gently pat the foam into the affected areas
Apply it at least three times a day (or however often it’s needed)
If the product gets in the eye, rinse well with clean water to avoid irritation
Other ways to combat chickenpox
Speak to a GP or pharmacist about the best antihistamines for your child, as these will help to reduce the itchiness of the spots.
Ensure that your child drinks plenty of fluids during the day to prevent dehydration.
Cut your child’s nails short to prevent them from causing damage when scratching and delaying healing.
Put gloves/socks on your child’s hands overnight to prevent them from scratching during the night.
Dress your child in loose, flowy clothing to minimise irritation.
Bathe your child in lukewarm water, as hot water can increase the urge to itch.
Bring down a temperature and flu-like symptoms by giving your child paracetamol.
