Veganuary isn’t just about cutting meat and dairy out of your diet, it can be a start to a whole new, healthier life! Find out how to start a vegan lifestyle so you can be kinder to yourself and to the environment today!
Small Swaps
The first thing to remember is to start small, don’t go all out and slip back into your old habits within two weeks. This is unsustainable which is not what veganism stands for at all! Try swapping one meal every other day to vegan and then increase this to one meal every day. Slowly you will start eating vegan without even realising!
Look at what you can swap, change your mince for a veggie alternative (Lentils or meat replacement) you get the same meaty texture but with all the nutritional goodness of a plant-based meal! You don’t have to miss chocolate either, you can tame your sweet cravings with some dark chocolate and vegan friendly ice cream. You would be surprised to know that most bourbons are vegan friendly!* So you can enjoy a yummy biscuit with your cuppa, what bliss!
Go Vegan Next Time
Don’t go throwing out all your creams and lotions that aren’t vegan friendly or Peta approved. Use what you have and then buy vegan next time. Reduce your waste by reusing the bottles to water your plants or for some arts and crafts with the kiddies! Better to buy it when you need rather than stock up on new vegan goodies and waste what you already have. The unrecyclable bottles will end up in a landfill which is counterproductive if you are trying to save the world!
Stay Positive
Like with any lifestyle change, there is always a risk of slipping back to your old ways. Don’t be hard on yourself if you ‘accidentally’ eat that bit of chocolate or just have a sliver of chicken for the taste. Take some time to breathe and then get back on the vegan horse knowing you will be stronger than ever. If you are finding the swaps too difficult ask a family member to do it with you so you’re not alone on your journey to a healthier life.
Unlike food, swapping self-care products can be much easier! If you don’t think you can quite brave quitting the choccy yet, try to focus on getting vegan skin and haircare. Read our guide to vegan beauty products for more tips and tricks! Remember, even a small change can make a big difference!
Cook & Clean Vegan
Once you have enjoyed a gorgeous vegan meal, you are sometimes left with a not-so-gorgeous mess! Cleaning with vegan friendly products means you do your bit for the environment and don’t compromise on cleaning quality. Read more about Savers eco-friendly products here.
