So, the holiday countdown is on – you might have started practising some local lingo and even scoped out the best food hotspots, but deciding what to pack for holiday? Well, that’s an afterthought for many. Whether you’re a packing pro or a throw-everything-in-the-night-before type of packer, you’re in luck! We’ve done the heavy lifting for you and compiled the ultimate holiday packing list for all types of trips – from camping and hiking to cruises, city breaks and beach holidays!
Note: before we dive into what to pack for holiday destinations, there are a few non-negotiables that you should bring with you regardless of where you’re heading. These include your passport, travel documents, first aid, toiletries, medication, gadgets and weather-appropriate clothing.
What to take to the beach
Picture this: you’re walking along the shore with the warm sand in between your toes and the salty breeze tickling your hair. Blissful, right? Well, nothing disrupts that dreamy haze quite like forgetting half the contents of your beach bag! The first thing on your ‘what to take to the beach’ list should be SPF (we recommend factor 30 at a minimum) to shield yourself from UV rays. After that, be sure to take: aftersun, cooling mist spray, swimming costume/shorts, a floppy hat, sunglasses and flip flops, along with a good book!

What to pack for a city break
Whether you’re sightseeing in Stockholm, restaurant hopping in Rome or basking in the Barcelonian sun, knowing what to pack for a city break is simple if you plan on travelling light. If you’re only taking a cabin bag – reusable travel bottles will be your best friend! So, before your trip, decant all your necessary toiletries into these bottles to save you airport stress (and airport prices!). When you land, it’s important that you’ve got a comfy pair of trainers on hand before you start racking up your steps. Lastly, it’s never a bad idea to bring a portable charger with you, too.

What to take on a cruise
Before you decide what to take on a cruise, it’s good to know if there will be any baggage weight restrictions. If not, packing will be a breeze! You can bring all your home comforts, including all your full-sized toiletries, and even your slippers if you fancy. It’s also a good idea to pack comfy clothing for sightseeing, plus some formal wear and fragrance for the evening entertainment. Oh, and if the seas get stormy, you might want to consider packing some anti-sickness wristbands to help alleviate nausea.

What to take hiking
For the adventurers of the bunch, a hiking holiday is the ultimate way to unwind from the stress of everyday life and reconnect with nature. If it’s your first time on this type of holiday, your hiking packing list might not extend beyond a pair of walking boots and a backpack. While these are of course essential, there are a few other things to ensure you have. Firstly, some mosquito and insect repellent as extended time in the great outdoors can attract a few unwelcome critters. As well as this, you’ll want to pack comfy athletic clothing, SPF, anti-chafing cream and some blister plasters.
Compeed Blister Plasters Mixed Sizes 5 Pack
£4.49
Lanacane Medicated Cream 30g
£3.49
Xpel Mosquito Repellent Pump 120ml

What to take camping
Whether you’re grooving at Glasto or enjoying a quiet countryside camping trip, deciding what to take camping or even what to bring to a festival can take the fun out of the lead-up. But worry no longer! Bear in mind that your access to running water might be somewhat limited, so stock up on toiletries like hand sanitiser, wipes, dry shampoo and spray SPF (it tends to be a lot less messy than normal SPF). Also, with British weather being as it is, you’ll be at the mercy of Mother Nature, so be prepared to bring light and breathable clothes for sun-soaked days, layers for the evening as well as hooded ponchos and wellies for wet weather.
