Nothing beats that freshly showered feeling, right? Whether it’s a five-minute power shower or a half-hour hair wash, each will leave you feeling more relaxed and refreshed than when you stepped in. But none more so than the everything shower, a.k.a. the viral routine #beautytok can’t get enough of. This concept transforms a regular shower into a head-to-toe pamper session featuring all manner of scrubs, serums, shampoos, moisturisers and masks. So, if this sounds like your kind of self-care, we’re breaking down the everything shower into seven steps (complete with product recs, of course) for the ultimate spa-like experience.
What is an everything shower?
Put simply, an everything shower is an elongated shower routine consisting of self-care and hygiene steps that take place before, during and after your shower. The goal is to deeply cleanse the hair, face and body in order for you to feel smoother, softer and cleaner than ever.
Typically, everything showers will involve applying masks, exfoliating, shaving, cleansing, and hydrating using moisturisers and oils, but these steps are completely customisable to you and can be built upon or swapped out for anything else you fancy doing.
While most won’t have the time (or energy) to make this a daily occurrence, everything showers are a great way to round off the week with a head-to-toe body refresh.
Everything shower routine
Step 1. Relax and unwind
Everything showers are not designed to be done in a hurry, so take this opportunity to slow down the pace and encourage your body to unwind. Whether this is by lighting that candle you’ve been meaning to burn, sipping on a calming cup of chamomile or flicking through a few chapters of your current read, these steps will set a relaxing tone for the rest of the pamper sesh.
Step 2. Apply a hair mask
Our hair goes through a lot, so why not treat your tresses to a weekly hair mask? Applying a conditioning treatment pre-shower will allow your strands enough time to fully reap the benefits of the ingredients in the mask. Plus, this step will promote smooth and silky hair, which you’ll thank us for when it comes to detangling time.
Exfoliating is the ultimate shortcut to soft and glowing skin. Once you’re in the shower, buff your exfoliating product (body scrub is our weapon of choice) around your body in small circular motions. This process helps to slough away dead skin cells, reveal the brighter skin lurking below, and prevent those pesky ingrown hairs from forming.
If your skin is on the sensitive side, feel free to ditch the scrub and lightly buff your skin with a shower puff or loofah instead.

Step 4. Shampoo and condition your hair
Once you’ve rinsed away your pre-shower hair mask, you can start the shampoo process. For those who have left it a little while since your last wash (it happens!), we recommend shampooing twice to thoroughly refresh your scalp and strands.
Next up, apply your favourite conditioner to your lengths, taking time to rake it through gently with your fingers or a wet brush. Just like the hair mask, you can leave the conditioner in your hair while you move through the remainder of the routine.
If shaving is your thing, now’s the time to do it. For a close but comfortable shave, a hydrating shaving cream and a fresh razor will be your BFFs here. Remember, slow and controlled strokes will help to prevent nicks and cuts and leave you with silky soft skin – no razor bumps in sight.
Now for the final shower step – cleansing. To start with, wash your face gently with a face wash to get rid of surface-level oil, makeup and debris. And just like your shampoo, you can go in again if your face needs a deeper cleanse.
For your body, the same steps apply. Take your time scrubbing your body with your favourite shower gel using either your hands, a washcloth or a loofah. Lastly, give your body a final rinse before stepping out of the shower and wrapping your hair in a microfibre towel.

Step 7: Hydrate the skin and hair
As much as they’re good for the soul, long showers (especially hot ones) can be quite dehydrating for the skin. So, this final step in your everything shower routine is all about restoring moisture back into the skin.
If you want the full spa experience in the comfort of your own home, take your most luxurious body oil and massage it slowly into the skin. Follow this up with a nourishing body cream to flood the skin with extra hydration.
In terms of facial skincare, your normal routine will work perfectly. We recommend applying a serum (hyaluronic acid is always a winner!) to support your skin barrier and deliver an intense dose of hydration. After, you can seal in the goodness with a rich moisturiser for long-lasting radiance.
And before you hop into your comfy PJs and call it a day, don’t forget about your hair! Release your tresses from the microfibre towel and gently detangle, working from the bottom to the top. Next, apply a nourishing hair oil to give your strands shine and softness, as well as a heat protectant if you’re going to be heat styling after.
